This should give you paws for thought.
A system is only as strong as it’s weakest compo A system is only as strong as it’s weakest component, and for many people grip strength is a limiting factor.

A strong grip connects your body firmly to the weight you are lifting, and tells the nervous system that there is no need to inhibit strength.

Simple holding exercises are a great way to train your grip, including rack pulls into holds, dead hangs, and loading pin pickups into holds.

Bar rolls and dumbell wrist extensions/flexions target the wrist, and using the grip block we can target our hands.

Equipment swaps to make any exercises grippier include applying the fat grips or using an axle bar over a standard bar. If you don’t have access to much kit continually grabbing sand is another great way to strengthen the grip.

Feature Friday this week is Steve 💪 Steve has Feature Friday this week is Steve 💪

Steve has amazed all of us recently as he prepares for hip surgery.

He is the model example for how we should all approach prehab. He has been getting himself into the absolute best condition possible prior to surgery so he has the smoothest rehab afterwards.

Under the careful guidance of Coach Alex he has been building up his strength and muscle mass in his lower body to ensure he has the best possible outcome after the surgery.

It’s also good news for us as it means we’ll all see him that much sooner.

Steve is one hell of a determined person and no stranger to shaking off knocks from his rugby playing days.

The rehab won’t be easy but Steve has the personality to handle it and he’s built his body up to be in the best place possible 💪
Cortisol - the stress hormone _ Having had a lovel Cortisol - the stress hormone
_
Having had a lovely extended weekend break with my family in Portugal and feeling my stress levels go down whilst I soaked up the sun and chilled out it got me thinking about the role stress can play in your training but also personal life!
_
Cortisol is your primary stress hormone and enhances the brain’s use of glucose amongst a multitude of other things, it is a very diverse hormone!
_
Without control of stress levels, the response from raised cortisol can disrupt many of the body’s natural processes, including your immune, digestive and reproductive systems as well as growth processes.
_
This long-term disruption can cause anxiety, depression, digestive problems, headaches, muscular pain, heart disease, sleep problems, weight gain and problems with memory/focus.
_
We all know that being stressed sucks and will easily ruin a productive training schedule as well as your recovery so even more reason to look after yourself, take a day or two to de-stress and develop some form of self-care routine.
_
Reach out if I can help in any way to help manage your stress levels, I’m a message away 😎 @blgstrength

Feature Friday this week goes to Noa! ⭐️ Noa Feature Friday this week goes to Noa! ⭐️

Noa joined us this summer for work experience. She instantly impressed us with her initiative and positive attitude!

From helping members to jumping in and helping our coaches run sessions. She’s been amazing!

She even managed to pass her driving test at the same time. It’s been a big summer for Noa!

We’re such big fans of Noa that we decided to invite her to stay on as part of our staff team and we’re delighted to announce she accepted.

Welcome to the team Noa! 🥳
The importance of resistance training in older adu The importance of resistance training in older adults 💪

In the later years of our lives, resistance training becomes even more important. Muscle mass decreases, leading to immobility.

Through using resistance training in your program, the rate of muscle atrophy decreases, bone density improves, and the risk of falls decreases due to improved stability.

All of these benefits will result in a more independent and functional later life! 💪🏋️‍♀️

Feature Friday this week is Kerryann! 🥳 We lov Feature Friday this week is Kerryann! 🥳

We love Kerryann. It could be her fantastic attitude, positive energy every time she comes in and her coachable nature. It could also be that she buys us flowers 😍

Kerryann has been with us almost two months now and the passion and effort she puts into her training has made a real impact on the coaches.

In her Group Personal Training sessions she has been getting strong, fit and ready to swim again.

She’s determined to shed a few lbs but if you’re like us you’d look at her and wonder where on earth she’d find them to lose!

We’re privileged to have you with us 💪
