Many of you enjoy the free cakes that are often left out on our reception desk but may not know they come from this tall Viking of a man.

When Josh isn’t flinging kettlebells around like a circus performer he’s at work as a professional baker 👨‍🍳 Every now and then he’ll have some spares and brings them our way for members to enjoy.

It may be ironic that a gym has free cakes but they’re tasty so… 🫢

Josh is a big part of Athlete Movement and not just for his cakes. He’s got a big personality and quads to match 😍 Never has a man worn leggings with such confidence!

Every weekend you can find Josh selling his cakes at the Guildford market so if you’re ever shopping, you can go see him in action 💪

Sandbags!
_
Sandbag training is becoming much more popular nowadays and for good reason. They are easy to use, versatile and entirely scalable! At @athlete_movement we have a variety of sandbags ranging from 40kg all the way to 150kg 👊🏻

You have many options with a sandbag, the most popular being carries, extensions and shouldering. They work your posterior chain, arms and core not to mention the lungs!

To pick up a sandbag, stand over the bag and have your hands lined up with the centre for a vertical pull. Shuffle the hands underneath and pull it up onto your lap. When you pick it up remember it is a hinge and not a squat (don’t sit too low).

For an efficient carry/extension you want to have the knees close together and “hug” the bag in tight. If carrying it, lean back and keep breathing!

Men, women, kids, dogs…but no d*ckheads.

We are a community; from people looking to lose weight, improve their fitness or rehab an injury all the way up to professional athletes training for competition.

Sometimes people tell us the paint work & metal everywhere can look intimidating from the outside. Those people completely change their mind after being a member for 20 minutes. 

Someone told us recently that Athlete Movement is ‘like church but without the religion’. People talk, help each other, build friendships and support others even if they’ve never spoken to them. 

We may be a gym but we are nothing like the leisure centres & 24 hour commercials you have been to before.

If you have a goal; something you want to achieve, you’re welcome at Athlete Movement 💪
Feature Friday this week is Member Number 1! Big Feature Friday this week is Member Number 1!

Big Jim was the first ever member of Athlete Movement. He practically messaged us five times a day in the lead up to our pre-opening sale in 2018 and joined at 12.01 on the day!

Ever since then Jim has been an ever-present at the gym and just look at him 😍

His dry sense of humour, understated approach and positivity are much appreciated by all the AM staff. If we were going to choose our first ever member, Jim wouldn’t be a bad choice 😜

He’s a popular guy in the gym but this photo shows who he really is. A freak who refuses to wear shoes or sleeves. Let’s hope he stops there or we’ll all feel bad about our physiques if the vest comes off 🥹
Alex is now taking on clients 🎉 We are over th Alex is now taking on clients 🎉

We are over the moon that Alex has now officially started coaching at Athlete Movement 💪

If you’re looking to work on your health & fitness or get stronger Alex is the perfect coach for you.

On top of that she’s also an expert in rehab and training around injuries. So if you’re currently suffering or feeling any niggles drop her a message. 

She’ll still be offering her popular sports massages on top of coaching!

Kids Classes 💪 Our Academy classes are an exce Kids Classes 💪

Our Academy classes are an excellent way to keep your children active and healthy outside of school.

Academy sessions are for children aged 8-15 and focus on teaching the children the importance of moving their bodies, working hard, prioritising their health and working on skills which directly transfer to the sports field.

Whether your child is looking to improve their performances in a specific sport or just looking to enjoy exercise, they will benefit from our experienced Coaches.

Classes include focused work on speed, power, jumping, changing direction and all core aspects of physical literacy. As well as coaching on how to train in a gym to prepare the children for when they turn 16 and want to use the gym independently. 

Classes are on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings and cost just £20 a month for unlimited access.

Today is Amy’s last proper day working at Athlete Movement after almost 4 years!

Amy has been with us since we opened in June 2018. She’s been a firm part of the team and everything we’ve achieved. She’s seen the place transform and we’ve enjoyed seeing her do the same; from leaving bodybuilding behind to her first powerlifting competition and soon her debut in Strongman!

Amy has done a lot for Athlete Movement and that is reflected in how popular she is with all of our members & guests. It’s certainly going to be different without her around each day running classes, helping everyone out and needing a calculator to work out the change every time someone pays with cash!

Amy leaves us to take a completely different path, leaving the fitness industry completely. Luckily she will be still part of Athlete Movement as a member!

So it’s not goodbye, just farewell for now…and soon we can shout at her for forgetting to scan in too 😈

Updated Opening Hours Starting Saturday May 7th w Updated Opening Hours

Starting Saturday May 7th we are updating our opening hours slightly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

We have been tracking the number of people training each hour and these opening hours better reflect the needs of the majority of our members, whilst also preventing our staff working long, unsociable hours when often no one will be using the gym.

Please make a note of the changes; Fridays we now close at 8pm, Saturdays we now open at 7am & close at 6pm and Sundays we now close at 4pm.

These changes come into place starting this Saturday, May 7th.

Ellen has been with us for nearly two years joining us after the first lockdown. 

Her commitment to her training hasn’t gone unnoticed with her recently stepping up her strongwoman competition entry from novice to inters and in between this taking part in the weekly ladies only Barbellas class.

It is easy to see why Ellen is a popular member of the gym with her friendly face and enthusiastic attitude which is infectious across the many hours she spends in the gym whether it be training or chatting (lots of chatting 😂).
