A new coach has arrived

Q&A with Athlete Movement’s new Strength & Conditioning Coach

We are delighted to have now completed our staff team with the fantastic addition of Ben Glasscock to our Coaching Staff.

Ben is a highly qualified and experienced Powerlifting Athlete with a background in helping people from all backgrounds reach their goals; whether that be training and competing for strength sports or losing weight, gaining muscle and feeling more confident.

We sat down with Ben to ask him a few questions and find out more about what makes him tick!

Make sure you read to the end to find out about Ben’s amazing opening offers to his first 10 clients.

What first motivated you to start training?

I first got into training with the aim to better my performances on the rugby pitch. I wanted to get bigger and stronger so that I could be improve my performances and be the best team mate I could be. Since then, my motivation has switched, and I simply want to become the strongest version of myself, in all aspects, as cliché as that may sound!

How long was it before you knew you wanted to train others?

I quickly developed a passion for helping others in the gym and completed my Personal Training certification whilst still at university. Since then, I’ve completed extra qualifications including specific Powerlifting Coaching courses. Training others is a huge passion of mine, I find it engaging beyond belief and love seeing people improve through my training methods. It’s the most rewarding part of my job.

What style of training do you follow?

Strength training, more specifically a basic linear periodisation model, which essentially means using lighter loads for a lot of my training and steadily adding weight to the bar over time. I have tried and tested almost every training programme under the sun, so have a lot of experience when it comes to different styles. My motto is find what works for you and stick to it!

Do you only specialise in Powerlifting?

Nope, not at all! I love training a variety of people with different goals. I have worked with marathon runners, triathletes, rugby players, football players and even my toughest client…my Mum! I have experience helping people achieve weight loss, muscle gain, rehabbing an injury and sport specific training. Strength training is at the core of my methods, but I’m versatile and will adapt to however people like to train – I like a challenge.

How important is competing?

It isn’t the be all and end all. If you like the goal of a competition in whatever you do, go for it. At the end of the day you should enjoy the process and if a competition adds to this enjoyment then it is a great idea. The experience gained is valuable and you can meet a lot of like-minded people too. I personally love it and have made a lot of friends.

Are you excited to start at Athlete Movement?

That is an understatement. When I first walked in I could barely contain myself. To be part of such an amazing facility with a huge amount of potential is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I cannot wait to meet everyone and start helping members achieve their goals and hopefully add value to what Luke and Tim are trying to do and offer more to members!
