Feature Friday this week is our resident thespian Feature Friday this week is our resident thespian Guy 🎭

You wouldn’t realise it from his humble demeanour but Guy has one of the most bad ass careers and backstories around!

As a stunt performer & coordinator Guy has appeared in more huge movies and tv shows than we could list; James Bond, Batman, Fast & the Furious, The Witcher, Games of Thrones…you name it!

Our favourite bit of recent work was his starring role in The Gentleman 👏🏻

Around the gym Guy is a softly spoken gentle giant with a lot of knowledge about training and plenty of stories.

Guy’s longevity in stunt performing is likely directly linked to the care he takes of his body. Training sensibly, with purpose and dedication. Something we should all aspire to 💪

It’s been our pleasure to have Guy with us for over 4 years now and hopefully many more to come 🎉
How to train in accordance with your menstrual cyc How to train in accordance with your menstrual cycle:

We’ve all been there... training is going really well and then BAM - you feel tired, lethargic and it's difficult to motivate yourself to work out.

So why does this happen and how can you get the most out of your training during this time?

Over the menstrual cycle, there are hormonal changes that affect your training and, at times, your motivation to train. We will be discussing two hormones in this post, estrogen and progesterone, and how they affect you throughout the month.

During your menstrual cycle there are two phases: the luteal phase and the follicular phase.

You start your cycle in the follicular phase and at this time both estrogen and progesterone are low. Estrogen then increases throughout the follicular phase and drops during ovulation, typically on the 14th day of your cycle. When estrogen is at its highest you will find you are at your strongest and can tolerate the most during your training.

The luteal phase begins after ovulation, when both hormones increase but progesterone more so. This is when it’s likely you will feel tired and lethargic and training may be significantly harder, usually about a week prior to your period.

So what can we take from this?

During the follicular phase you will be at your strongest, making it the optimal time to make the most gains in the gym. This generally coincides the week of your period and the week after your period. You will want to push yourself most during this time. The week prior to your period (luteal phase) is when women tend to struggle the most, so with this in mind you may want to deload.

Instead of trying to work against it, why not work with your menstrual cycle to get the most out of your training?

If you need help with your training or with an injury DM Coach Alex @af_sportsmassage_ for a chat 💪

Feature Friday this week is our Calisthenics King Feature Friday this week is our Calisthenics King Lewis!

It has gone under the radar to many but our staff have been hugely inspired by Lewis recently.

Over the last few months Lewis has gone out of his way to help Daniel in any way he can as he learns Calisthenics 💪

We’ve all seen Lewis doing some jaw-dropping gymnastic work at the gym over the years. Daniel wanted to give it a go and Lewis has done everything he can to help him. Even changing the times he trains so they can be at the gym at the same time.

In a short amount of time Daniel has begun to conquer some of the harder movements and make ridiculous progress. A good coach mixed in with some hard work goes a long way 💪

Things like this remind us all of how things should always be. Helping out a fellow gym goer. A little empathy goes a long way!

Thanks for the inspiration Lewis 🫡
Athlete Movement on tour 🚗 Our worldwide trave Athlete Movement on tour 🚗

Our worldwide travels continued today with an epic trip up to Gymshark all thanks to our good friend @chrisbeckxo 💪

After a full tour of Gymshark HQ and their brand new innovation hub the GSIQ we got to the main course; an epic training session in the Gymshark Lifting Club.

We travelled up north to gain even more inspiration for the changes to come at Athlete Movement. Mission accomplished 🫡

Thanks again to @chrisbeckxo for a great day. He even threw in a free lunch in the Gymshark Refuel restaurant 🤤

Happy Father’s Day to all our AM Dads! 👨‍👦

The role of the Father often gets played down in modern society. In our humble opinion, a lot of the world’s problems could be improved if there were more positive male role models around for young people.

We have some inspirational Dad’s at Athlete Movement. The men who squeeze workouts in to their lunch break, or at the crack of dawn so they don’t miss time with their children. The guys training late at night because bed & bath time are more important.

On our staff team, the Dads who rush home between classes & clients to enjoy 45mins extra family time.

If you’re a new Dad and struggling at all, always feel free to reach out. We’ve all been there and sometimes us men aren’t good at talking about things.

It’s a blessing for us to see so many dedicated Dads. So many Fathers who rave to us about their wonderful children.

We’re privileged to have you with us 💪❤️
Feature Friday this week is our new Strongwoman Ch Feature Friday this week is our new Strongwoman Champion, Hester!

On Sunday Hester entered her first ever Strongwoman competition and walked away with the W! 🎉

Hester hasn’t let this success go to her head however. Rather than chase the dream of World’s Strongest Woman, Hester was back at work teaching the next generation all about Shakespeare on Monday morning.

Joining us in November with the delightfully moustached James, Hester is a firm fixture in our classes and seems to thrive in situations others would surrender to. Always finishing workouts, always hitting PBs. They’re a bit of a power couple! 🤘

Hester’s latest habit is bringing her work to the gym and squeezing in some marking before a workout. Dedication personified.

It’s our pleasure to have you with us Hester. We’ll do our best to keep you grounded 😎
🪵 Luna the Log 🪵 We love 3 things; new kit 🪵 Luna the Log 🪵

We love 3 things; new kit, alliteration & dogs. It’s the only name that made sense.

This beautiful hound deserved to be immortalised on a piece of kit. She’s as important to the mood of the gym as caffeine.

This immense log from @bigdogsstrongmandivision weighs 80kg.

When lifting it please make sure your belt is turned to the side of your torso so that the buckle doesn’t scratch the log.

Look after her, she’s special to us 😍
Personal Trainer & Coach Forum! The fitness indus Personal Trainer & Coach Forum!

The fitness industry can often appear dog eat dog with everyone competing for the same space. We believe that we would all be better for supporting, and relating to, each other.

In many other industries, people get together as peers and discuss any issues, problems and solutions they have encountered.

It helps everyone to share a problem, hear that others experience it too and find common ground. The only outcomes possible from chats like these are positive for everyone.

At Athlete Movement we believe the entire industry should be working together to raise standards and push things forward.

We will be hosting our first PT & Coach Forum on Mon 11th July at 12pm. Whether you are an in person or online coach, commercial or independent gym, part of a team or working solo…you are welcome!

The aim is to share issues, experiences and give everyone the chance to come together as equals and leave with an idea or some knowledge you can instantly implement in your work.

This will be a round table discussion with everyone sharing and listening. There will be no humble-bragging and confidentiality is expected from everyone.

If you’d like to book a spot, DM us and we’ll get you on the list 💪

Big Aaron is a treasured part of our staff team and yesterday he put in a SHIFT!

Here he is, at his first ever strongman competition, repping out 185kg 😲

A huge performance from Aaron and so many other Athlete Movement members and friends made yesterday a special day ❤️
